Hydro-peritoneum. — The accumulation of fluid in the cavity of the peritoneum[1], a form of dropsy distinguished from anasarca, which is an accumulation in the cellular tissues. See Dropsy.[1] A number of societies have considered ascites as a divine punishment for oath-breaking.
